From the vibrant dance floors of global festivals to the breezy rhythms of Rio de Janeiro, SOFI TUKKER ’s artistic journey continues to win hearts over. Their latest album, Butter—a tender, jazz-laced companion to their explosive 2024 album Bread—just dropped as a seduction to Brazil, to freedom of expression, and to music’s power to shapeshift. If Bread was made to move bodies, Butter is here to melt hearts.
Over a decade in the making, Butter traces its roots to “Brazilian Soul,” the duo’s viral 2018 hit with The Knocks, which now closes the new album in poetic full-circle fashion. That song wasn’t just a one-off—it was a spiritual spark. It unlocked something deeper for Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, leading them into the lush sonic rainforest of bossa nova, MPB, samba, and other Brazilian and Latin traditions. This new album marks a return to organic soundscapes, recorded on-location in Brazil, and features reimagined versions of fan-favorites like “Woof,” “Spiral,” and “Throw Some Ass”—each track breathing with warmth, rhythm, and intention.
Where Bread reveled in electronic exuberance, Butter offers a sensual counterpoint—jazz-infused, sun-drenched, and soulfully stripped down. Collaborations shine, too, most notably “Bread” with iconic Brazilian artist Seu Jorge. Their short-form docuseries gives fans an intimate window into the album’s creation, capturing moments of inspiration and the undeniable cultural reverence with which SOFI TUKKER approached this project.
The shift is not a departure but an expansion. This is SOFI TUKKER stepping into their full creativity—genre-bending, borderless, and deeply human. Their signature vibrancy now takes on a new texture: softer, warmer, and butter-smooth. Butter doesn’t aim to just entertain; it invites us to slow down, to sway, and to feel.
This summer, the duo will bring Butter to the legendary Newport Jazz Festival (August 1–3), offering a rare live experience that merges their genre-defying energy with a historic jazz legacy. It’s a full-circle moment not just for SOFI TUKKER, but for a global audience ready to witness what happens when club culture meets the soul of Brazilian jazz. Don’t miss the chance to experience their sonic magic firsthand.
