Buscabulla Releases ’11:11′, Their First Single in Four Years

It’s been four years since Puerto Rican indie duo Buscabulla (@Buscabulla) has graced us with new music and the clock has finally wound down to the miracle we’ve been waiting for. Raquel Berrios and Luis Del Valle’s captivating new single “11:11” is inspired by the aspirational rhythms they heard their moms blasting from the stereo on cleaning days during their childhood. Released on Domino Records, “11:11” was self-produced and mixed by Rich Costey. It is the group’s first original new song since their breakthrough debut album ‘Regresa‘ in 2020. Taking rhythmic inspiration from merengue and other Caribbean genres, Buscabulla’s co-founders Raquel and Luis seamlessly deliver the magnetic energy of their signature live shows through “11:11.” Although, this new single arrives imbued with new levels of mysticism. Named for Berrios’ ubiquitous angel number, the track marks the start of a fresh, very pointed chapter for the band. “You have a purpose, and you have to fulfill it,” Berrios says. “That’s what this new era is all about.”

The video, thoughtfully directed by Jorge (Fish) Rodriguez, presents a woman in the middle of an existential crisis overwhelmed by her eternally dirty home. Singing “the hours pass by” as she dances and scrubs frantically trying to liberate herself from the repetitive and mundane task, waiting for a sign from the universe. As the clock marks 11:11, she awakens with a clear message that “life’s too short” and that she must grab the spiritual reigns of her life by cleansing and renewing herself of dirty, unproductive thoughts.

Buscabulla’s signature sound has been described as tropical synth pop, electro-pop, indie pop, electro-Caribbean, and experimental. La Isla del Encanto’s celebrated husband and wife duo is known for incorporating Latin rhythms such as salsa, reggaeton, bachata, merengue and calypso in their entrancing lyrical stories. These moving narratives have captured the attention of global superstars such as Bad Bunny, with whom they collaborated on the hit song “Andrea”, garnering over 700M total streams worldwide. After a whirlwind few years, Buscabulla emerged with renewed ambition and revitalized creativity. The epiphanous line on “11:11” makes it clear: “And the numbers spoke to me,” Berrios sings. “I finally understood. That the eleven eleven on my clock was waiting for me. I was born for this.”
