Playlist: Discover CDMX

Mexico City (aka CDMX) continues to build its cultural music movement and we’re here for it.

Thanks to a new generation of genre-bending artists like YoSoyMatt, Girl Ultra, Eva de Marce, Son Rompe Pera, Pahua and many more, CDMX’s music scene has been through a massive transformation. Last year we took an explorative journey through the sounds of Mexico and how the country’s rich indigenous roots continue to be engrained in its modern sound. Read more here. Still, with its melting pot of Latin and world cultures, mouthwatering culinary landscape, vibrant colors and endless nostalgic stories, influences have been blending from nearly every world genre. What once may have been isolated scenes of rock, pop or cumbia, have now emulsified as creatives from all around the world flock to make the Latin American capital their home. This has created a seductive multilayered sonic identity unified by their deep connection between the past and the present. Talented CDMX based visual artists like Orly Anan are collaborating with many musicians to give the music a captivating visual identity inspired by local folklore and weekly parties like Noche Negra MX are keeping the city dancing. In the grandiose Mexican metropolis, what’s old is new again.

We’re excited to bring you some of these innovators bending the borders of classic rhythms and connecting tradition with contemporary styles that create Chilangolandia’s refreshing sonido MexaThis movement has blessed the city with a rich, eclectic sound that has brought us underlying themes such as melancholy, like Girl Ultra’s latest release, Blu, from her EP “Blush” and rejuvenated rock sounds returning after nearly a decade like Cafe Tacvba’s La Bas(e).

As an homage to CDMX’s labyrinth of sonic emotion, Tigre has partnered with Muxic to bring you, music lover, the vehicle to Discover CDMX

MUXIC is the first Music Tourism Office in Mexico, a collaborative platform and network that promotes music and tourism to create unique experiences with extraordinary talent. As an artistic community, agents specialize in the entertainment industry and strategic communication. Their mission is to build an ecosystem where creativity thrives and Mexico is revitalized, serving as allies and facilitators for national and international creatives, while positioning Mexico at the epicenter of Music Tourism to become part of a global conversation.

Earlier this year, Tigre was thrilled to experience the vibrant scene firsthand through our Tigre Abroad launch in CDMX. We partnered with our friends at Concord Music Publishing to cover their noteworthy songwriting camp, El Sync Camp 2024. The 3 day camp came to life at recording studio Casa de Copas, an alluring creative space co-founded by renowned CDMX artists and producers, including the team behind Mexico’s iconic band, Molotov (muy machín, ¿no?). Following the camp, Tigre collaborated with En La Sala MX, a CDMX based artist collective led by Natale, to showcase a soulful evening of jams and an epic performance by the hands of Haitian emerging gospel artist, F-Mack at Palapa Cantina.

Stay tuned for upcoming collabs we’re excited for with Mexico-based rising stars like Pahua and CDMX’s Afro-Caribbean movement leader, La Bendicion.

Mexican Institute of Sound’s Camilo Lara said it best: graciasMéjico M Á X I C O. Visit this playlist to discover CDMX here.
