Roshâni, the luminous Geneva-based duo whose name means light in Farsi, returns with Playa Los Ángeles, a soul-stirring three-track EP born from their month-long residency in Colombia. It’s a project that pulses with the deep ancestral heartbeat of Palenque’s percussion and the glittering shimmer of electronic melodies, rooted in lived experience and mutual collaboration. This time, the magic happened far from their snowy Swiss city, on the northern Caribbean coast of Colombia, where the joyful chaos of street rhythms and sacred tradition offered fertile ground for their global sound.
Following the success of their acclaimed debut Alma de Baile, a kaleidoscopic explosion of psych, disco, cumbia, and pop, Roshâni’s Roxane Dumont (guitar, voice) and Inès Mouzoune (synths, bass, production) ventured into new terrain with intention. Landing in San Basilio de Palenque, the first free Black town in Latin America, the duo immersed themselves in the town’s vibrant musical heritage. They joined forces with master percussionists Franklin Tejedor and David Mesa of Estrellas del Caribe, trading snowy Alps for the heat of the ruedas: communal music circles where rhythm and spirit move as one.
The result is Playa Los Ángeles, a trilingual sonic tapestry that unites Roxane’s raspy vocals in French and Spanish with Inès’s hypnotic bass lines and synths, weaving seamlessly into the folkloric textures of tambo alegre, gaita flute, and maracas. The opening track “Fluye Amor”, produced in collaboration with the talented producer Indus, dances between romance and nostalgia, while “Aló” is an irresistible groove built for late-night dance floors and beachside block parties. “Sola (Versión Palenque)” offers a raw reinterpretation of a Roshâni original, both soft and wild, echoing the duo’s evolving identity through cross-cultural exchange.
More than just an EP, Playa Los Ángeles feels like a celebration of collective creation, ancestral memory, and the future of electronic fusion. It’s this kind of artistic alchemy that sets Roshâni apart. Their songs aren’t just for dancing, they’re for remembering, dreaming, and transcending. From Geneva to Palenque and back, Roshâni continues to illuminate the global music landscape with fearless authenticity, marking them as one of the most compelling duos to watch.
Let this EP wash over you like its namesake beach at the edge of the majestic Tayrona Park, where the first melodies of this journey were born. Playa Los Ángeles is out now via Stone Pixels Records.
