Nothing resists the power of pop, the impact of a hit. It sticks to us like gum. It has a melodic spell that overcomes any language barrier. The Italian trio The Kolors has been professing this for fifteen years. Straight out of Milan’s vibrant club scene, although their roots are in Naples and the Campania region, they have that inexhaustible desire to find the greatness of the catchy song. That goal largely explains a career full of top-rotation singles, prestigious awards and two appearances at the Sanremo Music Festival.
Last year, without going any further, The Kolors gave that pop knockout hook with “Italodisco”, one of those songs that stick with you and never go away. This successful single spent five months in a row at the top of the local charts, also conquering charts in Germany, Poland and Switzerland. Twice platinum, with millions and millions of streams and views, “Italodisco” is so effective that it has two versions, in Italian and English.
“Italodisco” is an unbeatable summer hit, one of those that everyone sings, and that even sparks some parodies. Such success can change everything in a band, even for the worse. Luckily, this doesn’t seem to be the case. “I don’t want to sound like an experienced artist, but with experience, I stopped investing emotionally in numbers and lists, because they can betray: if you go into the studio thinking about them, you end up neglecting the music,” frontman Antonio “Stash” Fiordispino told the Italian version of Vanity Fair, putting his feet on the ground after the shock that his hit song caused.
The history of The Kolors dates back to 2009 when singer and guitarist Stash Fiordispino decided to set up base in Milan and call on his cousin, drummer Alex Fiordispino. They also brought in Daniele Mona on keyboards and percussion. Together they began to weave a well-polished pop, like that of the 80s, supported by shocking beats, funky guitars and leading synthesizers. Fueled by the singles “No More” and “I Don’t Give a Funk”, they released their debut album I Want in 2014. The following year, they entered the talent show Amici, emerging victorious and achieving greater success with their second record, 2015’s Out, which started at the top of the local rankings and was certified 4 times platinum. “Everytime” was its top-charting cut.
In 2017 they released their third album You, followed in 2018 by the single “Frida (Mai, Mai, Mai)”, which would allow them to participate for the first time in Sanremo. This year they had another chance to be part of the legendary music festival with the hit song “Un Ragazzo Una Ragazza”. Previously, in 2020, they joined forces with Italian singer and actress Elodie to release the successful collaboration single “Pensare Male”. In 2021 they released another great single: “Cabriolet Panorama”. In 2022 they had a change in their lineup: Daniele Mona left the band and Dario Iaculli joined in the role of bassist.
The Kolors’ highly anticipated US debut will be crowned at the 2024 edition of Italian HIT Week. It couldn’t be any other way: this is the event that year after year brings the vibrant energy of Italy’s music scene to US audiences. The concert is FREE to the public and will take place on Saturday, October 12, at the Miami Beach Bandshell. It will also feature exciting performances by other Italian artists such as singer-songwriters Giulia Mutti, Damien McFly and Didi, and pop-punk duo Liverpool Alligator Park.
Italian HIT Week is a festival with a history we feel very close to. It takes place in a pleasant and familiar atmosphere, produced annually in Miami since 2010 by Rhythm Foundation, with the support of the Italian Trade Agency and FIMI (Italian Federation of the Music Industry). In 2022, we had the opportunity to appreciate Diodato and Cosmo playing live in Miami. And in 2023, we welcomed indie pop duo Coma Cose and alt-folk singer-songwriter Gio Evan. All artists who know what it is to achieve success: their names left a mark at the legendary Sanremo Music Festival, as part of that long Italian tradition of searching for the perfect song.
