Supreme beats shake and fuse Electronica and Latin. It’s a total musical and dance delight in an atmosphere of sophisticated energy. It’s almost apotheosis. The night couldn’t get any more dreamy and exciting. That’s what we experienced last Thursday, February 20th at TRIVVU, the iconic terrace on the 1st floor of the W MEXICO CITY hotel. The excuse was no small thing: it was the exclusive kick-off party for Electric Daisy Carnival Mexico 2025, the most anticipated electronic music festival of the year.
In partnership with Insomniac, W MEXICO CITY hosted the electrifying EDC Mexico 2025 experience, offering the ultimate kick-off party for passionate house music lovers. This collaboration brought us cutting-edge sounds of top-tier beatmakers such as PAUZA, Maz and Wakyin — a celebration curated by Simon Kessler and Sinego that combined Afro-house rhythms with influences from Cuba, Brazil and Colombia. “Together with Insomniac and W, we created this lineup to showcase the best Latin electronic fusion,” says Sinego. “So you have PAUZA, for example, this DJ duo that mixes Cuban music with electronic music, Afro-house specifically. Then you have Maz that’s mixing Brazilian music with Afro-house as well, and Wakyin that’s mixing Colombian music and this kind of Latinx music with house. These are the best exponents of Latin electronic fusion in today’s culture.”
Born in Orlando, Florida, but with a strong Dominican and Puerto Rican heritage, Christian Rivera-Joaquín began forging his musical path early on to the lively rhythm of merengue, bachata and salsa that permeated the neighborhood streets of his childhood. Known by his artistic alias Wakyin, he has a deep passion for exploring and blending different genres, bridging cultural gaps through his mixes and developing a signature sound that engages a global audience. Always committed to his Latin roots and an ever-expanding musical palette, Wakyin embodies the transformative power of music that transcends borders.
Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Thomaz Prado is known in the electronic music world as DJ Maz. Not only is he emerging as one of the greatest exponents of the electronic music scene in Brazil, but he has already gained international recognition, with millions of plays on streaming platforms and performances at major festivals such as Rock in Rio, Lollapalooza, Coachella, Ultra Europe and Tomorrowland. His remix of Luedji Luna’s “ Banho de Folhas” has taken the music world by storm, becoming a dancefloor anthem across the globe and climbing to the top of the Afro-house charts. His distinctive sound redefines the genre by combining Brazilian percussion with Portuguese vocals.
“These artists are bringing the best of the best of electronic music fusion,” says Sinego, musical director for the Caribbean and Latin American regions of W PRESENTS. The Colombian DJ and multi-instrumentalist based in Mexico didn’t choose these artists by chance. His enthusiasm is well-founded. “They’re part of this new sound, a very organic sound in electronic music. It ranges from something very electronic and very synced and Ableton-based kind of to something that’s more organic, that has more voices, more percussion, more guitars, more piano Rhodes and even pianos.”
It is also no coincidence that the Electric Daisy Carnival Mexico 2025 kick-off party was held at TRIVVU, its iconic terrace located on the 1st floor of the W MEXICO CITY hotel. “EDC is very, very eclectic,” explains Sinego. “You have the best exponents of hard techno and techno to Afro-house, to low tempo. So it’s a full range of emotions from something very ethereal, like low tempo, to high energy, like even drum and bass. So I will say it’s a festival for everyone. And inaugurating the festival at the W, in Mexico City, means that we’re being tastemakers in the region of Latin America. We’re the only hotel basically doing this kind of activation in Latin America with top-notch artists like Maz, Wakyin and PAUZA.”
