With an addictive, Latin-Tronic beat and a self-produced video clip, emerging artist La May makes up a lack of budget with a boundless amount of love for music. The DJ, promoter, and pioneer in Colombia’s ecstatic dance movement presents her second solo single, “A Mar” in collaboration with the young, Mexican producer, Xaman.
“’A Mar’ is my tribute to my life story and the fantasies I have around love, all taking place in front of my first love: the sea. It is inspired by my days living in small beach towns, tropical trails, from Colombia, Mexico and Costa Rica, where I have spent beautiful times of my life. And by the sounds of the
tropical trees that have surrounded me since my childhood thanks to my dad, collector and selector of tropical music classics and fine coquetry. I remember that I started to write it in a time of nostalgia for those days of beach life while my father played “Vereda Tropical” on vinyl in the background. It was like a game of luck because Xaman then appeared with his sticky and tasty beat that fit the song perfectly. And that’s how ‘A Mar’ was born.”
As a true independent artist, activating the powers of “toderism”, this multifaceted Colombian was also in charge of the production, direction, and editing shot on the paradisiacal surf beaches of Dominical, in the southern Pacific of Costa Rica in a collaborative work with Canadian photographer Mathieu Harvey, the Bogota video artist Nicolas Vásquez, complemented with video clips of his beach trips to Mexico and Colombia and the collage art of the Colombian artist Vivian Pantoja.
“A Mar” is part of Equilibrio, Xaman’s recently released EP under the signature of the Cosmic Awakenings record label on October 3rd.
